Most of the faculty, staff and student leaders on campus are mandated reporters and must report incidents of interpersonal violence and Title IX violations that students share with them. If you are looking for a confidential conversation, you may contact the following offices, as these offices and staff are not required to share personal information from a report:

I feel really alone, what can I do?
There are places and resources both on and off campus that can help. The Counseling Center provides counseling services on campus. In addition, Crisis Services of Buffalo has a 24-Hour Crisis Hotline (716-834-3131) providing free and confidential services to survivors of sexual violence.
SUNY released a custom web-based tool called SAVR (Sexual Assault and Violence Response) to support victims to support victims of sexual assault or interpersonal violence at no cost, whether the victim attends a SUNY school or lives in any one of New York State’s communities. What if I’m not sure if I want to press charges, should I call the police?
If the incident happened on campus, you can make a report with University Police to document what occurred but decide to wait on pressing charges. If the incident happened off campus, you may do the same process with the local police department where the incident occurred. Regardless of criminal pursuit, you may opt to pursue the Buffalo State on campus conduct process. Filing a report with the police helps to preserve your right to press charges. The sooner the police can start an investigation, the more likely they are to gather evidence and make arrests, but the reporting individual should be in control of the process as much as possible.
I was under the influence of alcohol or other drugs when it happened, so I don’t want to come forward, or I’ll be documented.
Buffalo State’s number one priority is your personal safety and making sure you are supported when you report an incident. If you are seeking help, it will not be counted against you as Buffalo State has an Amnesty Policy (see Section 5 of the Buffalo State Student Code of Conduct). The Amnesty Policy applies to sexual assault victims and bystanders reporting a sexual assault in good faith. The campus will not pursue drug and alcohol charges, but keep in mind, this policy does not apply to scenarios where selling/distribution is involved.
What if an incident of interpersonal violence occurred with a non-Buffalo State student who goes to a different school?
If you are a member of the Buffalo State community, Title IX will still cover you as a Buffalo State student, even if an incident involved a non-Buffalo State student. You can still outreach to our on campus reporting options, and we will assist you in connecting to the appropriate resources.
How do I request a PNG or a No Contact Letter?
A persona non grata (PNG) and/or a No Contact letter can be issued through the Dean of Students Office. Please email deanofstudents@buffalostate.edu for any questions regarding this process, or call to make an appointment at 716-878-4618.
Can I proceed with conduct charges but not criminal charges?
Yes. For more information please contact the Student Conduct and Community Standards Office.
I want to report an incident of interpersonal violence, but I don’t want conduct or criminal charges.
Our support services at Buffalo State are critical. If an incident is egregious or repetitive enough, the college may pursue action.
What if I have class with or live in the same residence hall as someone I was involved in an incident of interpersonal violence with?
Please outreach to the Dean of Students Office to report any on campus concerns.
